Drew Corey is a composer, performer, conductor, and performance artist who creates clean, minimalist works while maintaining a sense of warmth. She creates this “warm minimalism” using aleatoric structures, her signature cellular writing, floating melodies and large harmonic textures. Her practice focuses on human connectivity and the visceral nature of certain physical and sonic stimuli. She creates works for choir, chamber ensemble, and solo performance, as well as interdisciplinary works for orchestra, theater and dance.
Drew is an active artist in the Los Angeles area. In early 2016, Drew co-founded C3LA: The Contemporary Choral Collective of Los Angeles, a collectively run ensemble dedicated to performing outstanding new choral music and providing a venue for multi-talented singer-composers and singer-conductors to collaborate. She composes, conducts and sings with the ensemble. She is the alto section leader and assistant conductor for the San Gabriel Valley Choral Company. In 2019, she became composer-in-residence for the Iris Company, a dance company dedicated to creating thought-provoking and moving experiences through dance, immersive performance, and film. She also continues her ongoing performance art series called Funerals. The funerals are performative rituals of burying trauma, relationships or anything that needs to be let go of with the aim to create a cathartic experience for both performer and audience.
She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Composition from the California Institute of the Arts in 2016.
